Bloomhouse serves as the thesis statement of designer Charles Harker.  He sought out to experiment with materials and explore organic architecture in order to seek harmony with the natural world. And you can definitely see that in Bloomhouse’s design.  The home forever flows and undulates. In fact, you can not find a single straight line in the house!

Formed with polyurethane foam and cement plaster, Bloomhouse wasn’t so much constructed as it was sculpted. Harker himself would shave away every wall, cabinet door, handrail, nook and cranny a little at a time until he deemed it just right.  Curves maximize air and water flow or act as strategic seating.

Over it’s 30+ years, Bloomhouse unfortunately fell into disuse and disrepair. When it came on the market recently, many even feared that someone would demolish it and build something boring.  Lucky for us, Dave and Susan Claunch purchased this treasure and conducted a complete restoration.  They wanted to preserve this truly one-of-a-kind home. Dave has also become quite a historian on everything Bloomhouse.  Be sure to pick his brain on the homes colorful history!
