Weird Homes Tour – Houston

Drew and Pam Shefman know what it’s like to experience flooding. Their Meyerland Neighborhood flooded twice in two years — once in the 2015 and then again a year later. Frustrated with the endless repairs, they said “never again” and decided to raise their home up into the air. This plan prevented them from suffering another flood from Harvey. They lifted it the day before the hurricane hit.

The Shefmans didin’t want to take any chances so they decided to lift their home up a whopping 10 feet up in the air. This has led to an interesting and unusual use of space under the home. You could call it a back porch or maybe an open air basement. Both can be debated. The home also holds some odd surprises like secret doors and cabinets that open in one room and close in another.

So don’t miss this one. You might even learn a thing or two about preparing for a flood. After all, Drew and Pam have a little experience in the matter.

The Weird Homes Tour’s self-driving and virtual home tours showcase unique and interesting homes in cities all across the world.  They are highly Instagram and social media worthy and family-friendly events where photos are welcome.
